The FZI Living Lab AAL is an open innovation network and living lab supporting research and evaluation activities for Ambient Assisted Living, a relatively new application domain focusing on technologies, services and business models for independent living, especially for elderly people.

The Distributed Artificial Intelligence Living Lab aims to bridge Future Internet research with actual users, providing a realistic experimentation and innovation environment involving all stakeholders. The SocialMedia Experience and Design Lab (SMEDL) is an open and integrative test bed for exploring and developing new home entertainment technologies. It has been launched in the city of Siegen and its surroundings in the end of 2009. SMEDL consists of three different lab structures, which offer a real-world environment to develop and evaluate cross-platform community concepts. The main focus is on user participation.
The Knowledge Workers Living Lab (KW LL) has been launched in Munich mid-2005, with the support of University Bw Munich and local partners. The iRegion Karlsruhe - creating the net economy has been launched in Karlsruhe with the support of the following major research representatives and local partners: Forschungszentrum Informatik FZI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Center for Art and Media (ZKM) and over 100 hundred SMEs and large companies within the net-economy domain.
The Ambient Assisted Living Environment has been launched in Kaiserslautern in 2006. Its main objective is the implementation and evaluation of assisted living systems with the long-term goal to provide the end-user a system environment that dynamically adapts to the changing living contexts and needs.
